Jonathan D. De Vries

CONDUCTOR ~ MUSIC EDUCATOR

Jonathan De Vries is a conductor and music educator in New York City.  At St. Michael’s Church, from 2000-2016, he was a Soloist and the Music Director of the three youth choirs: Angel Choir, St. Cecilia Choristers, and the High School Choir. Partnered with John Cantrell, St. Michael's organist and director of music, in 2015 Jonathan led the youth and adult ensembles on the tour of France, performing at the Normandy American Cemetery, Orleans Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris and The American Cathedral in Paris. In November 2014 Mr. De Vries produced and conducted the fully staged production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, incorporating talented student soloists and ensemble, professional singers, and a professional chamber orchestra drawn from New York City’s finest musicians. Past operatic productions at St. Michael’s under his baton include The Little Prince, by Rachel Portman, Robert Chauls’ opera Alice in Wonderland and Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde.  These operas were staged by Jonathan's wife and frequent artistic partner Katie S. De Vries. 


In 2014 he collaborated with folk singer-songwriter Peter Galperin to provide the backup singers for his single Travelin' HomeMr. De Vries’ ensembles have performed at Carnegie Hall, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, with Canterbury Choral Society at Church of the Heavenly Rest, and on tour to Washington, D.C. and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, UK.
